Random 10
God knows the world's a cruel place
when beauty don't grace your head
Elvis Presley, "Blowin' in the Wind"
John Cougar Mellencamp, "Pink Houses"
Stevie Wonder, "Yesterday"
Barenaked Ladies, "If I Had a Million Dollars"
Vigilantes of Love, "Eleanor"
Crash Test Dummies, "Superman Song"
Buddy Miller, "Worry Too Much"
R.E.M., "Find the River"
Trashcan Sinatras, "Got Carried Away"
Cracker, "Happy Birthday to Me"
(No it's not actually my birthday, the iPod shuffle isn't that sophisticated. Eleanor Roosevelt did have a birthday this month, however, Oct. 11. And Superman did die, briefly, last week on Smallville. So some of these songs are timely.)

I'm not sure which of these lyrics from those ten songs is more of an ear worm:
If I had $1,000,000
(If I had $1,000,000)
I'd buy you some art
(A Picasso or a Garfunkel)
or
Superman never made any money
Saving the world from Solomon Grundy

"I remember you, you drive like a PTA mother"
always gets my vote.

Elvis Presley singing “Blowing In the Wind”? There isn’t an iPod in the world with enough storage that that would bump off other tunes I’d rather hear.

If I had $1,000,000
(If I had $1,000,000)
I'd buy you an IPod
(So you could fully participate in Slacktivist)

And Superman did die, briefly, last week on Smallville.

If I had a million dollars
I'd buy you a green dress!
(But not a real green dress, that's cruel)
If I had a million dollars
we wouldn't have to walk to the store
We'd take a limosine 'cause it costs more
A classic, timeless song.

Vigilantes of Love, "Eleanor"
In case you're interested, VoL has a couple live shows available for download* over at The Live Music Archive. (Every band on The Archive has agreed to the taping of their live shows and the non-commercial exchange of those recordings, so it's all five-by-five.)
[*Unfortunately VoL's "download show" links gives you a zip file of every song played in each of four formats. You then have to delete the three versions that you don't want. Annoying? Yes, but still free.]
