Comments

A fairly short list, in part because Fred and I overlap on five songs this week. The non-repeats are:

"Only A Northern Song," The Beatles
"Only Love Can Set Me Free," The Alarm
"Only The Lonely," The Motels
"Only Wanna Be With You," Hootie & The Blowfish *
"Oo-La-La Intro," PDQ Bach
"Oo-La-La: Cookin' French Like The French Cook French," PDQ Bach
"Ooh," Jimmie's Chicken Shack
"Open All Night," The Urge
"Open Book," Cake
"Open Invitation," Santana
"Open Letter (To A Landlord)," Living Colour
"Open Road," Jude Cole
"Opera Singer," Cake
"Opposites Attract," Pat McCurdy
"Orange Blossom Special," Johnny Cash
"Original Sin," INXS

* This was from a free demo compilation they handed out at the record store some years back. I only accepted it because it had a Jill Sobule track. I swear.

As for recommendations? I'm going to do something odd, which means something obvious, and give the highest recommendation to the Beatles. "Only A Northern Song" is not your typical Beatles song -- they wrote it like that -- and it's well worth a listen. "Open Letter (To A Landlord)" takes second. Living Colour never got the appreciation they deserved, and this is one of the stronger tracks on a masterful album.

Cake, Pat McCurdy, Johnny Cash and INXS also come highly recommended, with Pat McCurdy's ode to a relationship that somehow keeps avoiding its obvious doom ("You like Picasso/I never read his poems") a particular favorite. The Alarm is good too; they've always reminded me a bit of the Call, and not just on the synonym level.

"Only Shallow," My Bloody Valentine
"Only You," Portishead
"Ontario Plates," Do Make Say Think
"Open," Peter Gabriel
"Open the Light," Boards of Canada
"Opening the Mouth," Boards of Canada
"Optigan," Harmonic 33
"Optimo," Liquid Liquid
"Options in the Fire," Flanger
"Orang," .O.rang
"Oregon," The Cinematic Orchestra
"Orphan Girl," Emmylou Harris
