Vendredi
As always, play along at home:
1. "Faith has been broken, tears must be cried / Let's do some living after we die"
2. "I didn't know nobody / And then I saw you coming my way"
3. "That suit you're stuck in fits you to a tee / But you're waltzin' 'round a landmine if you think you're bluffin' me "
4. "Pack and get dressed / Before your father hears us"
5. "It's one of those days / When those great ideas they just seem to fall out on you"
6. "I would buy you a green dress / (But not a real green dress, that's cruel)"
7. "Candy asked me if she died / If I could go on"
8. "Leave the road and memorize / This life that passed before my eyes"
10. "Ain't it a shame / How a thought can catch the breeze and blow away"
OK, yes, the version of song No. 1 that I have on the iPod is by the Sundays. And, yes, that's partly because of the whole Angel/Buffy thing. And so, yes, I'm kind of a geek for all things Whedon. But just look at that lyric and tell me it wasn't written in the hopes that some day our heroine would dance to it at her prom with her undead boyfriend.
Anyway, since I couldn't find a video link for No. 3, here's Maria joining John Mellencamp at Farm Aid for "Pink Houses":

You're absolutely right about "Wild Horses" (oops, did I spoil it?) That was one of three moments when I cried while watching Buffy, the only TV show that has ever reduced me to tears. If you're a Buffy fan, you already know what the other two were. (Hint: both from Season 2.)

1. The aforementioned "Wild Horses"
2. "Girlfried," Matthew Sweet
3. "Find the River," R.E.M.

#6 - "If I Had A Million Dollars," Barenaked Ladies. Love-it-love-it. I'll have to follow the link and watch the YouTube goodness when I get home tonight. Thanks!

Hint: both from Season 2
Since one of the shows that should have made you cry had Dawn, Tara and Anya, I fear you are leaving out one from Season 5. (I do not allow for the existence of Season Sux and Season Sux More, contending that "Once More With Feeling" and "Tabula Rasa" rightfully belong in Season 5.)

I can't imagine not crying at some point during "The Body." I just can't.
(My moment? Fruit punch. Damn you, Whedon, you genius.)

"I want you/ But I'm not giving in this time"
"Tabula Rasa" - last scene - Michelle Branch sings "Goodbye to You." Giles on the plane, Tara leaving Willow, Dawn mad and upset at the same time, Willow crying, and Buffy is lost, and will remain so for pretty much the whole season. About as sad as television gets...

Wow, I can't believe I know a couple of these that others don't. I'm no good with lyrics.
#4: Radiohead -- "Exit Music (For A Film)"
#9: Regina Spektor -- "Samson"
This song... "Fidelity" is great and all, but this is the song that made me love Regina Spektor. So beautiful and sad.

But not a real green dress, that's cruel.
Love that song, LOVE that line, love BNL. Haven't you always wanted a monkey?

#3 is Maria McKee - Don't Pull The Wool Down...just listening to Lone Justice in the car this morning...

"kind of a geek for all things Whedon" is an entirely honorable thing to be. The world would be a better place if there were more of us.
I can clearly hear Michael Stipe singing #8. From Automatic for the People, right? I could Google it, but that's cheating.

JS Bangs: I find it surprising that you didn't find _The Body_ or _The Gift_ from season 5 weep-inducing.
