Committed to Consider
If you call your dad he could stop it all ...
(The idea here, generally, is an alphabetical list of songs from my iTunes collection. Feel free to compare and contrast with your own list from the same alphabetical range and to let me know, in comments, what's missing. The list below, for example, does not include "Complicated," by Avril Lavigne. You might point out this omission, suggesting that my utter lack of anything by Ms. Lavigne represents a serious gap in my record collection and that Robert Smith and Billie Joe shouldn't have to shoulder the too-much-eyeshadow* burden all by themselves, which might in turn prompt an interesting discussion of "Sk8ter Boi" as a respectable updating of the rock & roll myth of "Rosalita." That sort of thing.)
"Committed to Parkview," Porter Wagoner
"Common People," Pulp
"Computer Blue," Prince and the Revolution
"Concrete and Barbed Wire," Lucinda Williams
"Concrete Sky," Beth Orton
"Condition of the Heart," Prince and the Revolution
"Confetti," The Lemonheads
"Conservative Christian, Right Wing Republican, Straight, White, American Males," Todd Snider
"Consider," The Choir
"Consider Me Gone," Sting
* Joan Jett, I would contend, does not wear too much eye eyeshadow. She's Joan Jett and therefore she wears just enough.

Communist Daughter, Neutral Milk Hotel

You're obviously right about Joan Jett, but wasn't your last range missing a Joan Jett song? And for that matter, although I might quibble about Robert Smith, haven't I seen you miss several Cure songs?
"Committed to Parkview", The Highwaymen
"Common People", William Shatner
"Communication Breakdown", Led Zeppelin (x5)
"Communication", Spandau Ballet
"Communications Problems", John Cleese
"Communion", Deborah Harry
"Communist Love Song", Firesign Theatre
"Compass Rose", Robyn Miller
"Complainte De La Butte", Rufus Wainwright
"Complex 34", Man or Astro-Man?
"Complicated Shadows", Elvis Costello & the Attractions
"Complication", Nine Inch Nails
"Compression", Everything But the Girl
"Compulsion", Martin L. Gore
"Computer Liebe", Kraftwerk
"Computer Love", Kraftwerk
"Computer Science for Life", MC Plus+
"Computer World", Kraftwerk (x2)
"Computer World...2", Kraftwerk
"Computerlove", Kraftwerk
"Computerwelt", Kraftwerk
"Computerwelt, Pt. 2", Kraftwerk
"Concerto for Horn and Hardart", Peter Schickele
"Condemnated New Dress", Depeche Mode (this is an unofficial remix from a remix bootleg called "Negative Images II")
"Condemnation", Depeche Mode (x14)
"Confession Time", Bill Hicks
"Confessions ", Violent Femmes
"Confessions & Song Ideas", Poe
"Confessions of a Knife", My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult (x2)
"Confessions", The Danglers
"Confessions", Violent Femmes (x9)
"Confusion Instrumental", New Order
"Confusion", New Order (x5)
"Conjunction Junction", Better Than Ezra
"Conquest", The White Stripes
That Debbie Harry song is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine.
The lack of "Confessions" means you don't have the Violent Femmes' self-titled album, which implies you don't have _any_ Femmes, which is just unacceptable. "Condemnation" on the other hand is from Depeche Mode's "Songs of Faith and Devotion" and I'm actually rather embarrassed I've somehow managed to end up with 14(!) versions of it.
And once again, I'm going to go slightly out of bounds to suggest a Poe song; this time "Control", I think her best song.

"Consider Yourself," Oliver. In my collection it's sung by Michael Goodman (The Artful Dodger), Bruce Prochnik (Oliver) and Ensemble (from the 1962 original cast).

I think this is the first time you've ever posted ten consecutive songs and our collections haven't overlapped by at least two.

Yes - Neutral Milk Hotel was the greatest thing to happen to the 90s.

"Complete Control [Live]," The Clash
"Completely Blue," Pat McCurdy And The Confidentials
"Completely Pleased," Semisonic

"Concerto For 3 Pianos And Orchestra (No. 7) in F, K.242 "Lodron": 3. Rondeau (Tempo Di Menuetto)," Andras Schiff, Daniel Barenboim, Sir Georg Solti; English Chamber Orchestra
"Concrete Jungle," Bob Marley And The Wailers
"Concrete Jungle," The Specials
"Condescension," Pitchshifter
"Condition," Ruth Ruth
"Condom Song," Pat McCurdy
"Confession Part III," Weird Al Yankovic
"Confessions," Violent Femmes
"Confidential Information," The Rembrandts
"Confusion," Presidents Of The United States Of America
"Confusion," New Order
"Confusion [Pump Panel Reconstruction]," New Order
"Connection," Elastica
"Connection," Lisa Hall
The absence of CCR, Led Zeppelin, the Clash, the Wailers, the Violent Femmes and New Order suggests that there may be some holes in Fred's music collection, although none of the individual songs above, except maybe "Communication Breakdown", really represents the best work of those bands. (They're all pretty decent, though.) I guess my first actual recommendation would be "Concrete Jungle" by the Specials. Both songs called "Connection" are worth a listen as well.

"Concertina," Tori Amos
"Company Calls," Death Cab For Cutie
"Conjuring a Dome," track 8 from the Mirrormask soundtrack
...forgot I'd ripped that CD to the laptop. Nice.

"Concerto ..." brings me up to 126 tracks on this one. I actually prefer the William Shatner cover of "Common People". Most of what I would recommend from my collection have already been called out - "Communist Daughter," the Elastica "Connection" and "Complete Control." What else is good?
"Communication," Systylé
"Company Debts," Sam Champion
"The Competition of Supermassive Black Holes and Galactic Spheroids in the Destruction of Globular Clusters," Jah Wobble
"Complications," Killing Joke
"Concussion," Richmond Fontaine
"Confessions," X-S Discharge
"Confrontation," Les Miserables (I'm surprised this one hasn't come up)
"Connected," Stereo MC's
Also, I remain convinced that the true message of "Sk8er Boi" is "Famous people are famous because of their innate talent, not because they got lucky."

Amen, brother! Preach it!
I'm going to the religious metaphor because Joan Jett makes me wanna drop to my knees. No, not to pray, but as long as I'm down there...

My only one in the range this week is "Consider me Gone", and it's already on the list.

Seconding the love of Shatner's Common People. In fact his album, Has Been, is really great. That's Me Trying, where Shatner plays a fater trying to reconnect with his daughter after years apart, is heart-breakingly great.
All I have is Complicated Shadows by Elvis Costello and the Attractions.
Posted by:missy | Sep 07, 2007 at 09:42 PM
fater= father. Wow, that's great typing there.
Posted by:missy | Sep 07, 2007 at 09:42 PM
And now the entry from the "Ol Farts" division:
Common Sense - John Prine
Compass - Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
Confusion #8 - Erik Mongrain

Finally! A week where I have more than one or two applicable songs!
Commotion - Credence Clearwater Revival
Concrete Jungle - Bob Marley and the Wailers
Coney Island Whitefish - New Orleans Klezmer Allstars
Oh, crap. Well at least there's three.

Cherry - 스푸키 바나나 (Spooky Banana)
China Girl - David Bowie
Classic Girl - 스푸키 바나나 (Spooky Banana)
The Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson
Crimson & Clover - Joan Jett
Cross-eyed Mary - Jethro Tull
Cry Baby Cry - The Beatles

Nobody except me has "Communio, Lux Aeterna" from Mozart's Requiem? They must have!
Also, apart from various concertos: "Concorde" by Cármina. The only overlap between my list and Fred's is "Common People".

I have that on CD, but not on my iTunes.

I love this category! I come the "Left Behind", but I stay for the music recommendations.
I've only got two things in range this week:
"Competition Smile" by the Gin Blossoms
"Coney Island" from the American Experience podcast

The absence of Pavement's "Conduit For Sale!" suggests that you don't own Slanted and Enchanted, which quite surprises me. If Neutral Milk Hotel was the best thing to happen to the 90s, Pavement was the second best. Or it's the other way around.
Posted by:JM | Sep 09, 2007 at 12:32 AM
I've got lots in this range. The most glaring omission in your collection, I would say, is the complete lack of Latin flavor.

Cisco Kid - War
City of New Orleans - Arlo Guthrie and the John Prine cover
Closing Time - Leonard Cohen
Cocaine - Eric Clapton
