Looking to Louie
"Looking at the Sun," Matthew Sweet (Girlfriend)
"(Looking for) The Heart of Saturday Night," Shawn Colvin (Cover Girl)
"Lose You," Pete Yorn (Music for the Morning After)
"Loser," Beck (Mellow Gold)
"Loser," Cracker (Kerosene Hat)
"Losin' It," Vigilantes of Love (V.O.L.)
"Losing Hope," Jack Johnson (Brushfire Fairytales)
"Lost and Found," The Kinks (Think Visual)
"Lost Cause," Beck (Sea Change)
"Lost Outside the Tunnel," Aztec Camera (High Land, Hard Rain)
"Louie Louie," The Kingsmen (Louie, Louie)
Listening to the truly great Kinks songs, I've never found myself thinking, "What this needs is more keyboards -- more of an '80s feel." But I still love "Lost and Found" because I remember the near-miss of Hurricane Gloria. The song captures a bit of what that felt like, the next morning -- Olly olly oxen free! and second chances all around.

I'm cheating a little with apostrophes at the beginning, to get Neil Young's "Lookin' for a Leader" in.
"Lookin' In", Bad Religion
"Lookin' for a Leader", Neil Young -- from "Living with War", nearly all of which is worth listening to
"Looking For You I Was", Patti Smith -- from "Dream of Life", probably my least favorite of her albums
"Looking for Job", Danny Elfman
"Looking for Love", Amelia Fletcher & the 6ths -- The 6ths is one of Stephin Merrit's (of the Magnetic Fields) names, but there's a better one of those coming below
"Looks Like a Cold, Cold Winter", Bing Crosby
"Looky Here", Bad Livers -- a rockabilly group I like a lot, but not my favorite song or album
"Loomer", My Bloody Valentine
"Looney 'Toon Interlude", Soundtracks
"Lord Anthony", Belle & Sebastian
"Lord Illingworth Anthem", MC Plus+
"Lord Protect My Child", Bob Dylan
"Lord Send Me an Angel", The White Stripes
"Lords on 45", Lords of Acid
"Los Angeles New Year's Flood", Woody Guthrie
"Los Angeles, I'm Yours", The Decemberists
"Los Homos", Los Conquistadors
"Lose My Breath", My Bloody Valentine
"Loser", 3 Doors Down
"Loser", Cracker
"Loser", Richard Cheese -- a lounge version of the 3 Doors Down song
"Losin' My Mind", Mr. Review
"Losing My Religion", R.E.M.
"Losing Today", Slowdive
"Losing Your Affection", Future Bible Heroes -- this is Stephin Merritt plus one of the fellows from Standing on the Beach, and my pick as my favorite of the songs here that you're not likely to already be familiar with
"Lossy Compression", MCDJ
"Lost Highway", Jeff Buckley
"Lost Reason", Big Pig
"Lost Souls", Book of Love
"Lost Train Blues", Woody Guthrie
"Lost Weekend", Wall of Voodoo
"Lost in the Moment", Edie Brickell
"Lost in the Stars", Martin L. Gore
"Lost", Annie Lennox
"Lost", Morrissey
"Lost", The Cure
"Lothlorien", Enya
"Lotto Fever", Aquabats
"Lou", King Missile
"Louie Louie", Joan Jett & The Blackhearts -- Fred, I'm surprised you don't have this; it's on my copy of I Love Rock & Roll; is it a bonus track added after you got your copy? (I'm sure you have a copy, given previous comments of yours)

I once hired the Kingsmen to play for a dance. It was just as Louie Louie broke, but it wasn't big yet so they were cheap. It was fun dancing to them.
Same with Fats Domino. Hired him and danced to his music.
Ah, the good ol' days.

I am mildly surprised to see that "Lord God Bird" by Sufjan Stevens has not yet made an appearance, given this crowd.

I am mildly surprised to see that "Lord God Bird" by Sufjan Stevens has not yet made an appearance, given this crowd.
Frankly, a lack of Sufjan Stevens is never a bad thing in my book. Unless it's something like, "Sufjan Stevens hasn't yet showed up at his arraignment. We think he fled the country to continue working on his music from his hidden studio in the Andes Mountains." That would be a bad time to hear that Sufjan hasn't showed up.

Sheesh, I never have anything to add to these lists, but I'll have to put in a plug for a dearly beloved favourite:
"Looking for an Echo" by the Persuasions
Posted by: hapax | Nov 09, 2007 at 02:13 PM
As always, playing it straight (no "Lookin'..." songs for me) and eliminating anything Fred already has:
"Looking For A Song," Big Audio Dynamite II
"Looking For The Next Best Thing," Warren Zevon
"Looters' Follies," Destroyer
"Loquasto International Film Festival," Mark Mothersbaugh (from the The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou soundtrack)
"Lorca's Novena," The Pogues
"Lord, Is It Mine?," Supertramp
"Lords Of Karma," Joe Satriani
"Los Pies Negros," Prisoner Del Vietcong
"Lose Yourself," Eminem
"Losers," Moxy Fruvous
"Losin' It," Black 47
"Losin' It," The Flys
"Losing My Religion," REM
"Losing My Touch," The Rolling Stones
"Lost And Found," Golden Earring
"Lost In Hollywood," Rainbow
"Lost In The Supermarket," The Afghan Whigs
"Lost In The Supermarket," The Clash
"Lost My Mind," Matthew Sweet
"Louie To Frisco," George Thorogood & The Delaware Destroyers
"Louie, Louie," John Belushi
A fair selection today, I'd guess. Most recommended: the cover version of "Lost In The Supermarket," which is one of the better efforts on the uneven Burning London tribute album. The Afghan Whigs play up the nostalgic portions of the original and introduce "Train In Vain" as a recurring counterpoint at the end. Very interesting. Honorable mention: "Looking For The Next Best Thing," "Lorca's Novena," "Lost My Mind," and the original version of "Lost In The Supermarket." Some of the other stuff is worth a listen too, but you can only have so many honorable mentions.

Well, let's see what the "Too Old To Listen To Music" archive has to share this evening:
"Looking Back" - Chromatic Gypsies
"Losing Kind" - Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band
"Lost River" - The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
After sifting out the Stones, Springsteen, Thorogood, Sabbath and Satriani duplicates there isn't a lot to choose from, is there? Guess I should start logging on a little earlier in the day....

"Look at Miss Ohio" -- Gillian Welch (Soul Journey) -- my favorite vocalist
"Look On and Cry" -- Crooked Still (Hop High) -- I dunno, I had some free samples and I searched for alt country, or was it bluegrass
"Look On and Cry" -- Ralph Stanley -- the original. I like having multiple versions of stuff.
"Lookin' Out My Back Door" -- CCR
"Lord Search My Heart" -- The Five Blind Boys of Alabama (Best of)
"Lord Bateman" -- Jean Ritchie (Appalachian Ballads)
"Lord Randa" -- Ewan McColl (English & Scottish Folk Ballads)
"Lord Randall" -- Jean Ritchie (Appalachian Ballads) -- that multiple versions thing, but in this case it's like species with a common ancestor
"Lord Thomas and Fair Ellen" -- Jean Ritchie (Appalachian Ballads) -- you should really check out this thread if you are still reading
"The Losing End" -- Neil Young (Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere) -- one of the greatest albums
"The Lost Chord" -- Thomas Alva Edison -- the first recorded music, from 1888
"Lost Indian" -- The Bluegrass Cut-Ups
"Lost John" -- Woody Guthrie
"Lost John Dean" -- Bascom Lamar Lunsford -- how topical
"Lotta Love" -- Neil Young (Live Rust)
"Louis Collins" -- Mississippi John Hurt
"Louisiana Man" -- Lucinda Williams
Anyone ever heard the original "Louie Louie"? I don't remember the band's name -- it was an LA jazz band, and the song was a mellow number with intelligible lyrics

"Loud Love", Soundgarden
Actually, I have three versions of this song, because I like to include entire discs, even if that results in duplicates. So I have the version from _Louder Than Love_, as well as the version from the Japanese EP _Loudest Love_ (which also includes Soundgarden's cover of "Come Together"), even though those two versions are essentially identical. I also have Audioslave's version of "Loud Love", which is somewhat disappointing. Cornell's voice really doesn't seem to be what it used to be, and Morello doesn't even try to play the intro.

Looking For a Place to Happen - The Tragically Hip
Loser - 3 Doors Down
Losing California - Sloan
Losing Grip - Avril Lavigne
Losing My Religion - REM
Lost and Lazy - 54-40
Lost Highway - Jeff Buckley
Lost in Boston - The Walkmen
Lost in Space - Aimee Mann
Lost Soul - Pete Murray
Lothlorien - Howard Shore
And though it's slightly out of range, I'll round out the list with "Louise" by Starling.
