Brand New - Bread

And softly murmured, 'Someday soon ...'

"Brand New," BoDeans
"Brand New Dance," Emmylou Harris
"Brand New Day," Eurythmics
"Brand New Day," Van Morrison
"Brand New Lover," Marshall Crenshaw
"Brandy Alexander," Feist
"Brass in Pocket," The Pretenders
"Brave Faces," Midnight Oil
"Brazil," Pink Martini
"Bread of Heaven," Katie Howard

I finally finished uploading the vinyl into iTunes, except for the records that were too scratched even when dripping wet. Anybody know where you can find a No. 1 pencil nowadays? With the waning of wax and the rise of standardized testing I can't seem to find one.

Comments

Try Blick Art Supply.

Or any art supply store. Pencils of all hardnesses are readily available for artists. You just have to convert between the European system and the American system. An American #2 is a European HB. And #1 = B. Or if you'd like you could go softer; 2B, 4B, etc.

Good luck!

I got nuthin. What does one do with a record and a number one pencil? Other than stick the pencil through the little hole? You could use a #2 for that...

"Brand New Friend", by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions?

Only three today that Fred doesn't already have: "Brand New" by the Beastie Boys, "Brand New Cadillac" by the Clash, and "Brave New World" by Michael Penn. Despite the limited selection, I have no problem touting "Brave New World" as my recommendation of the week. It is truly an excellent song, from an excellent album, from an excellent artist who seems fated to be known as Mr. Aimee Mann, which is not exactly a horrible fate, come to think. A case could also be made for "Brand New Cadillac," even though it's not as good as "Brave New World." While it's not one of the strongest tracks on London Calling -- somewhere around the middle, I'd say -- the absence of "Brand New Cadillac" is a worrisome sign than Fred may not have London Calling, which would be a tragedy.

A bit pricy, but these people will make you some with slacktivist.typepad.com printed on the side.

Not much this time:

"Brand New God" - Danzig
"Breadfan" - Metallica (I've never actually heard the original as performed by...Budgie?)

"Brandy for the Bishop", off an Irish dance CD and attributed to the Irish Showtime Band. "Brave", Jamie O'Neal. "Bread and Roses", Utah Phillips.

Second Michael Penn's "Brave New World," and add "Brand New God" by Something Happens.

Urgh. McCain ad in your sidebar.

Anyway, here are some suggestions for dealing with scratched vinyl:

I've only ever used the wet-play - until googling this I had never heard of the pencil or wax cures.

"Brand New Beat", Madness
"Brand New Sucker", Jonathan Coulton
"Brass Monkey", Beastie Boys

Does no one have a copy of the Wurzels' Brand New Combine Harvester?

Or Melanie's Brand New Key?

Lol, the waning of wax.

*relurk*

You forgot "Bread and Roses," that great old protest song.

Brand New Cadillac - the Clash
Brand New Cadillac - Vince Taylor & His Playboys
Brat - Green Day

I have Brand New Day by Sting - very good album

Or Melanie's Brand New Key?

The author of a "Memories of Woodstock" article wondered if he hated Melanie only because it was raining during her set. He made his peace with her when he heard her on the second Woodstock soundtrack, and suggested that sunny weather may have changed Melanie's whole career.

Not too much for you this time.

"Brand New Day" (Sting)
"Brand New Lover" (Dandelion Wine) -- not the 80s song
"Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)" (Looking Glass) -- I know, I know
"Braver Newer World" (Jimmie Dale Gilmore)
"Brazil" (Asylum Street Spankers)

And yay for the Jonathan Coulton fan upthread.

No mention of Bread? The intro to "If" typifies early 1970s soft rock for me.

I also have Sting's Brand New Day. And Melissa Etheridge's Brave and Crazy, which is probably my favorite of her albums.

A little late, but

"Brand New Stereo", Monobrow
"Bratskiye Mogili", Vladimir Visotskii
"Brave Captain", fIREHOSE
"Brazilia", John Coltrane

"Brave Captain" gets the nod here. It was an anti-Reagan song, but could certainly be resurrected as an anti-McCain song so spread the word.

"Brand New Tennessee Waltz", Jesse Winchester, covered by Jimmy Buffett

Got no songs to sing you, but a heads-up: your Amazon links don't work.
