Anyone who knows of a worthy cause or important petition should send a short description of the petition/cause along with its url to TBAT.
The following petition is in response to a situation where time is of the essence.
TW: Rape, sexual violence, torture.
Last Saturday, a young woman lawyer named Iman al-Obeidi burst into a Tripoli hotel and pleaded with foreign journalists for help, showing bruises and crying that she had just been gang-raped by 15 of Qaddafi's men. She screamed as she was dragged away by Libyan agents and has not been seen since......Qaddafi will ignore most international outrage, but he listened to the Turkish government when they asked him to release foreign journalists. Let's urgently raise a massive global call to Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan to help save Iman. [Avaaz.com]

About the sidebar.
TBAT continues working quietly to rearrange and "clean up" the sidebar by moving items around, changing fonts/font sizes and culling out "dead" links as well as links that are duplicated on the Patheos Slacktivist website.
In order to make this site more useful to its current readers TBAT will begin April 4 2011 to remove some of the sidebar links that are live and not duplicated on the Patheos website. We encourage people to bookmark, in their own browsers, links which are of particular interest to them.
After April 10 2011 TBAT will begin to add to the sidebar links to the websites of Slacktiverse readers and posters. We remind readers who wish to have their website included on the new blogroll to indicate their desire to be included by posting the address of their website as a comment in response to The Geography of The Slacktiverse, part 1 post on FAQ website.

While I think it would be wonderful if interesting posters are submitting material, I think the word intended here was interested.

Entirely unrelated to everything, a teacher and I were recently talking and she said she noticed a shift in weather reports from "chance of rain" to "chance for rain" which is obviously intolerable. It would be easier to say why, I think, if I could assume that everyone studied Latin/Greek/[Something with fully functional genitive and dative cases]. As is all I can say is that "chance for rain" makes me think that rain is waiting somewhere, ready to pounce*, and all it needs is a chance.
I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the matter.
-
*I want to say, "Like a coiled spring," but the simile might take away from the personification "chance for rain" gives to rain in my mind.

First? Is there some reason people like being first? I never understood the fascination. Do I get a prize?

Perhaps I should have waited to post.
I had some trouble with the petition, I kept on selecting the United States as my country and it kept on remaining blank. Then it suddenly was selected and all worked fine. I don't think I did anything differently so I'm not sure what happened but, if anyone else has trouble with that, I guess you should just keep selecting and it'll work itself out in the end.

Is there a set deadline for submissions for the weekend roundup?

@Jarred:
Is there a set deadline for submissions for the weekend roundup?
Good question. Hmmm. Guess we should have included that (oops).
Let us say 2000 EDT Saturday (midnight GMT).

//While I think it would be wonderful if interesting posters are submitting material, I think the word intended here was interested.//
Reminds me of the bit in Good Omens where Crowley dodges a number of "interesting Soho night people", with a footnote to the effect that in any other place, spectators at a fire would have been interest*ed*.

Apropos of nothing, has anyone heard from Pius Thicknesse lately?
Posted by: Mink | Apr 01, 2011 at 03:11 PM
I've been wondering where he is myself..... I assumed he left during the migration to patheos.
I miss him though.

>Apropos of nothing, has anyone heard from Pius Thicknesse lately?<
Last I heard, his father (I think father) was ill and Pius had to suspend his university studies to be with him and take care of him. Maybe he's busy with that?
Posted by: Brin (not Meir) | Apr 01, 2011 at 04:50 PM
Brin: I remember him saying that he was considering it, that they were waiting to see what happened, but nothing more than that, I'm afraid. Thank you for the information, however!

I've been wondering about him too. I'd forgotten about the stuff w his dad.

Re: Pius Thickness -- he and I had corresponded by email earlier this year. I inquired after his dad's health a couple of weeks ago and haven't heard back. And he hasn't updated his website for a while. If he is spending all his time looking after his dad he probably isn't even keeping an eye on that email account.
Posted by: Mmy | Apr 01, 2011 at 05:52 PM
Thanks, mmy. I'm a little concerned because I saw him on the Patheos board briefly and then... nothing.
Posted by: Mink | Apr 01, 2011 at 06:58 PM
Pius Thickness update:
I have heard back from Pius. He is currently immersed in data analysis (Ph.D dissertation stuff) and is doing almost nothing else.
His dad has had another set of tests and their fingers are still firmly crossed.
He plans to get back onto the boards when things settle down at home/university.

Pius, if you're reading here, best of luck with everything and many, many hugs.

Hello!
I can interest the way of above generating basics.
Now I will mention up arcade traffic trading, but actually this strategy works in all largest streams.
1. First of all, you necessity an easy-to-remember domain name and interesting recreation area, which makes users to click somewhere. In other words, you impecuniousness improve your sites vault rate. It resolve bear you more influence for transport growing. Due difference your sites interface and components on occasion to time and check your analytics. You will point to a trend, how to inflate your gambol rate.
2. Modificate sites organize and track impressions and clicks on every sport image. You can discover a CTR due to the fact that every tournament, and after that you may disclose exclusively games with highest CTR.
3. Principal fragment of traffic trading is to career your traffic. Use banner reciprocity systems, like banner-banner.com. Duty concerted banner code in your sites strongest page and in every scheme pages. Some of your users will click exchange network banners, a you will acquire late-model frash visitors underwrite (which purpose also brings new visitors).
4. Gain anything else freight for your site. Much traffic is better. Swallow 10 000 habitually or more. Look as a service to the effect. Suborn traffic from change networks, from another tournament sites, etc. Do not buy traffics from popunders or framework networks like adwords . (Opening is dialect right worthless importance (improper CTR), substitute is too expensive.
5. Constantly television screen your sites audience. It disposition grow. And you purpose be getting rich. If your sites above does not seems to growing, know, how to improve your sites attractivity (Move 1) or make an effort to find another places as a remedy for movement buying (Step 4).
This design works perfect. Sober-sided in performance and news sites it can flourish your daily auditory to +200K. On pastime sites this measure is much higher.
Endeavour it. My results are true and I just share in the strategy.
P. S. 1st out of doors is the most important. So, if you have wholesome locale, you can lenient development it's traffic.
