I don't believe that fathers and husbands are considered surrogates for each other, under the courtship model, as much as both fathers and husbands are special cases of the more general class "property owner". In one case there's an incest taboo, but I don't think there would be any intrinsic difficulty with a husband selling his wife to another husband (assuming he could find someone so depraved as to be willing to put up with a non-virgin bride).

I'd just like to point out that holding someone's hand in public can be extremely erotic if it's done right.

"Doing one's best for the kingdom of God" strikes at the heart of the narrative problem with this scenario: there is basically nothing heroic to be done, nothing that can alter any more than one person's destiny... except for the elephant in the room, the warning and conversion of as many people as possible, which is exactly the thing the Hole in the Ground Gang doesn't do.

"That would be appropriate". Not "nice" or "fun" or "wonderful", but "appropriate". Feel the emotional tension simmering in the air!

"Don't get me started now" seems like part of the battle for control as well. "You're crying, because you're a woman, but if you get me 'started' (crying? Angry? Something else?) then you'll be sorry."

The one time he actually mentions love, even that becomes a dominance game. "Don't you know that?"

Slightly OT: I've got a Right Behind fanfic that's almost ready to be posted. First, can anyone tell me how to post to Right Behind? Additionally, is anyone willing to beta my fanfic? (Email me at b m o s c g o o (near to) gmail.com if you're willing or can tell me how to post to RB: I don't know how frequently I'll be checking the boards.)

I now have a blog for the purposes of storing things I've written. I've put up 13 pieces, 9 of them parts of three different Rapture stories. In the near future you can probably expect alternation between periods of inactivity and spurts of progress in the form of stuff collected from various places posted without much in the way of editing. The end goal is to have everything up, well edited, and liked back to its original context. Also easy to navigate indexes of things. That's definitely not where I'm at now.

Anyway, the blog is here:

Probably nothing there that you haven't seen before at the moment.
